On 5 April 2022, H.E. Miss Chavanart Thangsumphant, Thai Ambassador to Finland and her delegation paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Tatu Leppänen, the President of Supreme Court of Republic of Finland, at the Supreme Court in Helsinki. H.E. Ms. Tuija Turpeinen, the Finnish Judge also attended the meeting.

During the discussion, the Thai Ambassador expressed her appreciation to the Finnish Judiciary, for its recent Verdict regarding to Human Trafficking made on 26 January 2022, which was in favor of 26 Thai wild berry pickers. In this connection, the Thai Embassy kindly requested the permission from the Court to analyze and publish the Court’s decision and findings in order to raise awareness of authorities concerned and the general public.

Hopefully, the Court’s decision and findings of this lawsuit will set the tone and form the new concept in handling with the situation of the foreign wild berry pickers in Finland. The Thai Embassy will also assess the Court’s judgement in order to gain the lesson learnt and propose the way forward on this matter for the mutual benefit of both Thailand and Finland.
