One day prior to the official enforcement of the Marriage Equality Act of Thailand, Thai Embassy celebrates the monumental milestone of the country on 22 January 2025 at the Royal Thai Embassy in Helsinki. The event gathered key drivers of human right and LGBTIAQ+, including SETA ry and Helsinki Pride, as well as loving couples, supporters, and media to join. With aims to parallel the celebration happening in Bangkok the following day to promote and celebrate the long-awaited Amendment of Civil and Commercial Code of Thailand B.E. 2567 (2024) or commonly referred as “Marriage Equality Act”
During the event, H.E. Ms. Chavanart Thangsumphant, Ambassador of Thailand to Finland, celebrates this proud milestone in Thailand’s history in recognising one of the fundamental rights to love and be loved. The Marriage Equality Act also proves that collective commitment for inclusivity, love, and equality has made this into reality, and this milestone is the great reminder of what we can achieve.
The Secretary-General of SETA ry also congratulated the occasion and wish the amendment would be a role model for the South East Asian region to follow. It is also a great occasion to celebrate success, remind us that collective work of the community matters, and serve as encouragement to LGBTIAQ+ worldwide.
Thailand will be holding the grand event to launch the official enforcement of the Act on 23 January 2025, where People and Friends of Thailand joins together to celebrate the historic achievement. On the same day, register offices throughout Thailand, as well as numerous Royal Thai Embassies and Royal Thai Consulate-Generals will also launch their services on issuing marriage certificate and family registry according to the amended code.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Helsinki once again congratulate the LGBTIAQ+ community in Thailand and the world for this auspicious occasion.
