The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand visits the Republic of Finland

On 23 - 24 August 2018, His Excellency Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand visited the Republic of Finland, and met with His Excellency Mr. Timo Soini, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland on 23 August 2018 at the Government Banquet Hall, Helsinki.
In this regard, His Excellency Mr. Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Ambassador of Thailand to Finland, and the delegates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of both sides also participated in the said meeting.
During their meeting, the Foreign Ministers discussed ways and means to promote the bilateral relations between Thailand and Finland in the fields of trade and investment, energy, information technology and digital technology. The Thai Foreign Minister also gave information on the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) mega project of Thailand and invited the Finnish businessmen to do business and invest in the EEC area. The Finnish Foreign Minister also mentioned about difficulties of the Thai berry pickers in Finland and committed to solve the problems.
In addition, the Foreign Ministers discussed about the regional issues as well as how to promote the relations between ASEAN and EU especially during Thailand’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2019 and Finland’s presidency of the Council of European Union (EU) in the second half of 2019.
This visit is the first top diplomat’s visit between Thailand and Finland in 22 years and the first ministerial visit of Thailand to Finland after the EU has normalised political relations with Thailand in mid-December 2017.
